What are you doing?!

What are you doing?! I am getting this question on a daily basis now. Let me see if I can answer that with a little more clarity.

Some people ask it with the exclamation point – they think I am crazy for quitting my job and venturing out on my own. To those people, you may be right. I guess we will see…

To those of you asking without the exclamation point, just wondering what I am doing (and maybe how you can do it, too!), here is a brief breakdown of the stuff I am doing online to make money -

1. Freelance web design

This one is fairly straightforward. I am building websites for people.

2. Product web design

This one gets a little more complicated. I am building sites that review and give good information on products, such as my site at www.kindleowners.com. I am a Kindle owner and enjoy writing about it, and I make money when people click on the Kindle products on the site and buy them at Amazon.

3. Freelance writing

All the websites you go to have content, and someone has to be out there writing it. Myself and a small group of writers I have hired write for several websites. We write everything from press releases to informational articles that go onto other sites and have a link back to the client’s website.

I am also working on several books of my own, the first one to come out in October. Those of you who know me well know that this has been a desire of mine for a long time.

4. Other stuff

Doing this kind of work opens up other opportunities, such as consulting, marketing, etc. I have had meetings on all kinds of crazy ideas already.

Soon, I will have some shameless plugs for the things I am doing here. For now, if you have an idea or want to try your hand at all of this, just e-mail me!

Big News: I’m a Quitter!

It’s true! On Monday I put in my notice…September 30th will be my last day at Cameron University. I have been quickly and quietly building several online businesses that are taking off like wildfire, and it is time to take the plunge and risk it all to work on them full-time.

The truth is, I love my boss, but I am tired of my job. It has been a tough 5 years, and I am ready to work for myself and have the freedom to do what I want (and so is Maranda)!

There is no sense staying somewhere that you don’t enjoy, unless you feel you are there for a reason. We all make excuses – the benefits are great, I don’t know what else I can do, I can’t start over now, the money is too good, this is what my degree is in and I can’t waste it, etc. I have heard and used all of them.

But no more. Today I declare my own personal independence. I am looking forward to the future and trusting that God has big plans for us. More details, (along with a few shameless plugs for my new businesses) coming soon!
