Timely Quote From Rick Warren

rick warren quote

This quote from Rick Warren is very timely. It seems that these days, we can’t have a conversation anymore. If we disagree with someone, we either have to hate them and/or yell at them. I have so many friends that disagree with me on so many things, and that’s ok. I don’t feel the need to yell at them, and vice-versa.

How about we all take a breath today and realize that the people around us are probably much more like us than we think. Oh, and maybe, just maybe, every now and then, they might even be right and we could be wrong. And then let’s all stop yelling.

Here is the text of the quote in case you want it –

Our culture has accepted two huge lies: The first is that if you disagree with someone’s lifestyle, you must fear them or hate them. The second is that to love someone means you agree with everything they believe or do. Both are nonsense. You don’t have to compromise convictions to be compassionate.

So bottom line, and please correct me if I am mistaken: We can totally hang out and be friends; but at the end of the day, I will pity you and pray for your godless/homosexual/etc. soul because you are going to burn in hell.

Hey pdt, thanks for the comment and question. I guess on some level, you could take it that way. My main point was that I want to be able to have conversations about these things without yelling or disrespect.

On the flip side of your statement, I have great friends who think I am crazy for believing in Jesus and pity me for it, but we can talk about that without any level of hatred. And I am not, in this post or any other statement, singling out anyone or any group saying they are going to hell.

Thank you again pdt, and please come back by and respond!
